Level 1 – Introduction to Water Skills Participants will practice and be evaluated on: entering and exiting the water safely, submerge mouth, nose and eyes, exhale underwater, open eyes underwater, pick up a submerged object, float on front and back, explore arm movements, swim on front and back and basic water safety skills.
Level 2 – Fundamental Aquatic Skills Participants will practice and be evaluated on: entering and exiting the water independently, rollover from front to back, swim on side, float on front and back, tread water, submerge head, front and back glides and combined strokes.
Level 3 – Stroke Development Participants will practice and be evaluated on: jumping into deep water from the side, perform survival float, butterfly kick and body motion, diving, rotary breathing, submerge and retrieve object, front and back crawl.
Level 4 – Stroke Improvement Participants will practice and be evaluated on: front and back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, scissors kick, safe diving rules and butterfly.
Level 5 – Stroke Refinement Participants will practice and be evaluated on: standing dive, shallow dive, tuck surface dive, pike surface dive, flip turns, front and back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, backstroke and sidestroke.
Level 6 – Swimming and Skill Proficiency Refines the strokes so students swim with ease, proficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Level 6 is designed with options that focus on preparing students to participate in more advanced courses, including the Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Training courses. The options include Personal Water Safety (PWS), Lifeguard readiness (LR), Fitness Swimming (FS)and Fundamentals of Diving (FD).
