Earlier this year a study of health clubs appeared in the February 2008 issue of Consumer Reports.  More than 10,000 subscribers to the magazine responded to a first-ever survey in late 2007 requesting feedback on health club staff, equipment, classes, crowds, cleanliness, and billing issues. To investigate the sometimes challenging experience of joining a health club, Consumer Reports also sent twelve of its 'Mystery Shoppers' to ask about joining branches of the major chains in nine states.
