June 9, 2014
By Deb Carneol, Social Media Coordinator
In preparation for the BEST.SUMMER.EVER. I had the opportunity to sit down with our JCC Summer Day Camp Directors to find out what they are doing to get ready for camp, what their favorite part about camp is and more! Check out what Lenny Kass, Director of the Albert & Ann Deshur JCC Rainbow Day Camp (RDC), had to say.
What are you doing to get ready for camp?
As of the last week of May, the Agam was being refilled, pool was being cleaned and also refilled, the tents were put up, the Wibit was pumped up and put into the agam, the tennis nets were been set up and new sand was ordered for the sand box. My shoe laces have also been washed and are ready for a summer of lacing!
Is there anything new at camp this summer we should know about?
This summer we have a new outdoor learning kitchen where each group will have an opportunity to take produce from our gardens and create healthy snacks. We will also be increasing our open play time allowing our kids to use their imaginations and creativity in the adventure playground, building center, open art area and musical area.
What are three words that describe JCC Rainbow Day Camp?
Fun - Safe - Challenging
How long have you been going to Camp?
Every summer when the sun comes out and it gets warmer, I get to go play at camp and I am proud to sa that this will be my 50th summer going to summer camp. I started as a day camper, went to Camp Interlaken JCC, came back as a counselor, then became a unit head and have now been the Director of Rainbow Day Camp for 18 summers. I started as a Day Camper, went to Interlaken, came back as a counselor, was a unit head and have now been the director of RDC for 18 summers.
