The Harry and Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center of Milwaukee recognize two outstanding Jewish teenage athletes each year, with our two scholarship awards: Outstanding Jewish Teen Athlete of the Year and the Roman Shklyar JCC Outstanding Tennis Teen Athlete of the Year. Each award has a scholarship attached to it for each athlete to further their education – the Outstanding Jewish Teen Athlete is a $500 scholarship and the Roman Shklyar JCC Outstanding Tennis Athlete is a $1000 scholarship.
Both of these awards are based upon students’ athletic and academic achievement as well as community service. These awards will bestowed upon the winners at the JCC’s annual meeting on June 1, 2016. They must be present to receive the scholarship.
To qualify for these awards and their respective scholarships, the JCC’s Health, Recreation and Fitness Committee has set the following qualifications:
- Athletic Achievement (50%): must have achieved All-Conference status (or equivalent) in his/her sport.
- Academic Achievement (30%): must be ranked at least top 25% of his/her class.
- Community Service/Leadership (20%): must have performed volunteer service and taken on leadership roles in the community.
