A #GivingTuesday Message From Mark Shapiro
As just one example of the good that comes from the JCC community, allow me to wish you a happy Giving Tuesday! Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
And it was born at a JCC. (Fun fact – the 92nd Street Y is a YMHA, the H stands for Hebrew.)
We’ve seen similar stories come from our own JCC; the community organizations and efforts born on the JCC’s basketball court, in the afterglow of a Tapestry Arts & Ideas event, or even just a partnership between neighbors seeded over a meal at CAFA B DATA. It’s what we do here; bring people together in shared values, provide meaningful experiences, and work together to build a healthier Milwaukee. If nothing else, Giving Tuesday is a celebration of community – a moment of inspiration to invest in the good work that happens wherever people are working to build a more just world. We’re proud to be part of that work, and thank you for everything you do to make it possible.
Today, we hope you find an opportunity to participate in Giving Tuesday; with an investment of time, talent, or awareness. We invite you to consider the JCC scholarship program when making a choice about where to give and, in doing so, sharing the experience you or your family have enjoyed as part of the JCC community. In wellness, education, and community services – we do our best work together, with the community we serve guiding us every step along the way.
Mostly, we thank you for doing your part to create spaces and moments where ideas like Giving Tuesday blossom. When you’re blessed with a community like ours – full of passionate volunteers and leaders, exceptional staff and partners, and unbelievably generous members and guests – we’re reminded, time and again, that anything is possible.
Be part of the global movement – share your giving story online with the #GivingTuesday hashtag,
