Jewish Film Festival: The Blond Boy from the Casbah
Celebrate the 27th year of the Milwaukee Jewish Film Festival! Our dedicated Film Festival Committee has worked for many months viewing potential films. They include thought-provoking films from France, Israel, Italy, and the Netherlands, and feature an array of themes speaking to Jewish traditions, culture, and history, as well as being relevant to modern day experiences.
The Milwaukee Jewish Film Festival is an important component of Tapestry: Arts & Ideas from the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center and is made possible by Marcus Theatre Department of the Marcus Corporation, the Shel and Danni Gendelman Endowment Fund, and the Sylvia and Robert Seinfeld Jewish Film Festival Endowment Fund.

Filmmaker Antoine travels to his birthplace, Algiers, with his young son to present his new film: an account of his childhood in Algeria during the country’s civil war in the 1960s. As he wanders through the city, the filmmaker immerses us in the moments of happiness, laughter, and tears of his youth – spent between school, friends, and his Jewish family.

Join us at Marcus North Shore Cinema for a community screening and talkback with Rachel Baum, Deputy Director of the Sam & Helen Stahl Center for Jewish Studies at UW-Milwaukee, and Jody Hirsh, former director of Jewish Education at the Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC.

Once you begin streaming each film, you will have 48 hours to finish viewing.
Two Ways to engage with the festival
Become a Festival VIP: For $200, Festival VIPs get a reserved seat for all five films, streaming access, invitation to our opening reception, special VIP gifts, and Marcus movie passes.
Purchase Single Tickets: $12/person to join us at Marcus North Shore Cinema for each community screening
$18/household to purchase streaming access for each film
This year, all films will be shown at Marcus North Shore Cinema located at 11700 N Port Washington Road in Mequon the week of October 27-31.
Each community screening will include:
- Post-film talkback with local experts (details below)
- Box Office Drawing – Each night 6 lucky attendees will receive a pair of Marcus movie passes for future use!
The following week, November 4-10, they will also be available for streaming on Eventive.
