Teva Pilates Studio's Photography Exhibit

June 12, 2013

Throughout the year, the Teva Pilates Studio has showcased JCC members’ artwork on its walls, and Jim Barnett is the next member of our JCC family to present his work.  Jim’s photographs from his recent journey to Tanzania, Africa will be on display in the studio throughout June and July. Learn more about Jim’s love of photography below.

“Photography has been a hobby of mine since 1966.  I photographed Bar Mitzvahs, weddings and various functions to earn extra money when I was younger and worked on my high school and college newspapers as a photographer.   In 2002, I was introduced to digital photography.  This opened up a whole new interest for me with the use of computers and editing programs.

The American West has always intrigued me.  From Glacier National Park in Montana to the Southwest, the diversity of the land has always piqued my interest and curiosity.  The landscapes along with the unique land forms have inspired me to travel to these locations.  Sand dunes are my favorite of all subjects.  Ed Weston's sand dune pictures have challenged me. The simplicity of the natural curves and the ever changing sand dunes gives me great solace.

Over the last several years, I've had the opportunity to participate in photographic workshops in Death Valley National Park, White Sands National Monument, and the Navajo Tribal Park in Monument Valley.  I am primarily a landscape photographer but this past January, Nancy and I went on an African Safari in Tanzania. It opened up a new world of photography for me.”
