JCC Community Update: Mask Mitzvah Aug 2021
August 12, 2021
When we finish a book of the Torah, the congregation comes together to say, “Chazak, chazak, v’nitchazek”: “Be strong, be strong, and may we strengthen one another.” While we would like to be done with the book of Covid-19, we need even more strength and commitment from the entire community as we navigate this unsettling rise of confirmed cases.
Following updated guidance from the CDC, which directly addresses high-risk communities and constituencies like the ones we serve, the JCC will be reinstituting its Mask Mitzvah beginning Monday, August 16, 2021. All members, guests, and staff are to remain fully masked when inside any JCC spaces; members and staff engaged in active exercise, fitness, recreation or aquatics activities may mask up at their own discretion.
Though we might feel disappointment to be moving back to a mask-up environment – we choose instead to look at this as another opportunity to demonstrate our values, celebrate our diversity, and recognize our responsibility to creating safe spaces and healthy opportunities for the entire community. Our leadership team, a peerless team of passionate and talented professionals, will continue to monitor local conditions and respond accordingly.
Thank you for your support and patience as we move forward and thank you for your active participation in this effort. Your JCC is in the business of bringing people together, and our future is bright when we make the people we serve – and those that provide the service – our priority.
