College Scholarships
The Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center is thrilled to offer two scholarships for graduating high school seniors as an expression of our commitment to cultivating generational leadership and building opportunities for the growth and development of young people in our community: The Roman Shklyar Outstanding Jewish Tennis Player Scholarship and the Lizzie Kander Heart of Community Scholarship.
Applications for both scholarships must be received by noon on Thursday, May 2, 2024. Winners will be notified by Monday, May 6, 2024, and will be celebrated at the JCC’s Annual Celebration & Awards event on Thursday, June 20, 2024.
Lizzie Kander Heart of Community Scholarship ($1000)
This scholarship is awarded to a current high school senior who has been impacted by a program of the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center. Applicants are asked to submit a 150-500 word essay describing how the JCC’s programs and/or services have impacted you, your family, or your community.
Qualified applicants live in the Milwaukee Metro area and are:
- Gan Ami Early Childhood Education & Kids Center alumni
- Albert & Ann Deshur JCC Rainbow Day Camp campers, staff, and alumni (including Road to Rainbow)
- Steve & Shari Sadek Family Camp Interlaken JCC campers and alumni
- Current and former JCC Members
- Current and former participants, and staff, of JCC fitness, recreation, aquatics, and inclusion programs (including JCC Maccabi Games)
- PJ Library Milwaukee alumni
- Current and former clients of the Jewish Community Pantry
Qualified post-secondary educational experiences:
- 2-4 year college or university
- Technical/vocational school program

Roman Shklyar Outstanding Jewish Tennis Player Scholarship ($1000)
This scholarship is awarded to a young, Jewish tennis player who excels both on the court and off. Applicants will be evaluated based on a balance of their athletic and academic achievements as well as their involvement in community service.
Qualified applicants:
- Have excelled at their sport
- Identify as Jewish
- Plan to attend a 2-4 year college or university
