Resources and Support for Israel

By JCC Milwaukee October 12, 2023

At the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, we are committed to fostering a supportive environment and facilitating meaningful conversations about the current events unfolding in Israel. We understand the importance of staying informed and engaged with the ever-evolving landscape. We share the resources below because we believe that community support, education, and information access are crucial. Here are just a few answers to questions we are hearing from our community.

Where can I make a donation?
You can make a donation to the Israel Emergency Fund here. Your donation will support terror victims from this war, including the Fund for Victims of Terror and support for those experiencing trauma.

I missed the community event on October 9. Is there a recording?
Yes! There is. Click here to watch the recorded livestream of the Community Solidarity Gathering for Israel.

Where can I watch the livestream from the March for Israel in Washington DC on November 14?
Click here to view the recording of the March for Israel.

How do I talk to my children about what’s happening in Israel?
PJ Library has curated helpful online resources for parents struggling with how to talk to their children about the current crisis in Israel. We encourage you to visit pjlibrary.org/israel.

How can I stay up-to-date and learn more about our local response?
Visit MilwaukeeJewish.org/IsraelEmergency

How can I learn more about the war from the view of someone living in Israel?
Read A View from Jerusalem, written daily since the start of the war by Leah Garber, a senior vice president of the JCC Association of North America and director of its Center for Israel Engagement in Jerusalem.

Where can I get a sign or sticker to show my solidarity with Israel?
We recently received Israel solidarity signs and stickers from a local printer which are available for pick-up upon request at both the Peck (North) and Marcus (West) entrances of the JCC. The signs say “We Stand with Israel” and the stickers say “I Stand with Israel.”

We are grateful for the outpouring of support from our members, partners, and community in response to the current events in Israel. Your heartfelt concerns and questions on how to help are a testament to the strength and unity of our Milwaukee community during these challenging times.

What are the blue ribbons for?
Wearing a blue ribbon symbolizes support and solidarity for the safe return of the hostages taken by Hamas terrorists in Israel. It publicly unites you with people of all religions, races, nationalities, ethnicities, ages, and generations and demonstrates to the people of Israel that they are not alone. Where can I go for mental health resources?
Jewish Family Services is offering supportive counseling by a licensed counselor to community members impacted by the hostility against Israel. You can go in-person at 1300 N. Jackson Street, or can call by phone or virtually. Call 414-390-5800 or fill out this form. JFS will also accommodate drop-in requests for services, although there may be a wait.
